Have you ever started a project and wondered, "What was I thinking?"...that was my whole day today. We are in the middle of a heat wave here and my 88 year old house (which I adore) gets hot, especially up in the attic (my workspace). The central air barely makes it to these heights. I must have been delirious from the heat to think making salmon canes with translucent and white polymer in this sweltering heat was a good idea...it wasn't.

White and Translucent polymer, for those who are unfamiliar, basically turns gluey when handled too much or becomes too warm. Cane distortion and smearing when attempting to slice is a 99% chance struggle. I battled all day, even though I knew I should have just stopped. Finally, after freezing both my clay cane and my blade, I achieved slices of salmon steaks worthy of my often picky critiques.

It became a fever-dream quest. I may have been hallucinating. Tutorial to follow. Go-Fund-Me page to accompany it, where I will beg for an A/C window unit for my studio, lol!!!

I will be at the 2017 Tom Bishop International Show next year. And I am stocking up and building up my inventory. I can't wait to lay out my table and put on display all of my work! Seeing it as a whole is a beautiful thing.

How do you display your work? Any tips or tricks? Acrylic risers, shadow boxes?

You are never too old to adore those sweet little red noses on the phone's face. The classic Fisher-Price toy is featured within this tutorial in 1:12 miniature scale.

These miniatures could be created as charms or as part of an adorable miniature setting.

when I was little my grandparents had a huge old freezer in the garage. It was like a freezer chest with a "lifetime warranty". I would walk out there and get these delicious sherbet push-up pops. Raspberry and tangerine were classics.

I loved these treats. They were always a sticky delicious mess, in an iconic wrapper. It was a delight to make these in miniature.

Summer is here. I love it. The heat, the sun, the long days, and all of the things the days bring...especially the good food! Grilling is always going on at our house and I was inspired to do it justice via miniature. Behold! Steaks!

Skirt steaks, filet, T-bone, ribeye, and even a meatloaf for good measure to round out all of the meaty goodness! I will be putting these up in my etsy shop tonight!

So much fun to make these miniature peaches, ice cream, and peach treat peachiness!! Maintaining the shape of the cane and the integrity of the inside of the fruit is key when creating realistic peaches.

Additionally, creating a peel that has marbled variegated colors and appropriate glazing is definitely part of the realism.

I'm not sure why this week has turned from mini-foods to animals, but I'm glad it has. It has been a fun week of revisiting sculpting birds, fish, and now unicorns.

My pops likes to fish. A lot. He took us all out onto the Gulf of Mexico, chartered a huge boat, got us up early and ready to go. Within 5 minutes out of the bay I got violently seasick and was passed out in a bucket for the trip. Safe to say, I caught ZERO Grouper that day. I always felt so bad that he went to all the trouble to put together such a cool trip, only for me to barf all over it (literally).

So for Father's Day I created the type of Grouper fish I can catch. A 1:12 miniature scale replica of a 20" fish.

Occasionally I think that subliminally my food cravings come out in my miniatures. Really, they do more often than not. My miniatures tend to always represent my own cooking style and plating preferences. This week certainly, I must have been craving brunch...I should have made mini Bloody Mary's. Yum!!

WHAT is a Picnic Sheet Cake?  Well, it's that sheet cake on the table at every family cook out that has gads of delicious frosting and that everyone just lobs off slices, leaving it looking like a bomb went off....but it doesn't matter because it is so dang good!

Out of the ice box, onto the picnic table, half-melted, napkins everywhere, cut into hunks, no conformity... where do I sign up?

Sweet little miniature polymer turkeys! Sculpting these little bad boys is a tad tricky. Texturing is different depending on the type of poultry you are making (color of the meat when slicing) and skin styles (goosebumpy raw or dry and matte roasted).

Over the past two days I have been super productive and have made a lot of different foods. Picnic Sheet Cakes, Roasted Bird, Chips and Salsa, just to name a few!

Now I must go out into the world (actually leave my studio??) and take a bike ride on this glorious day, on my brand new bicycle, which I hope to give a name soon. Yes, I name my cars and bike.
