I am almost close to figuring out the new movie editing software so as to get a new tutorial out this week. I'm pretty technologically savvy, but this is taking a bit of extra time to get it nailed down. However, in the meantime.... a few pics of my polymer Harvest!
So my sad little macintosh has died. Tutorials will be on hold for a bit. However I will keep you updated on my creations as they happen!
I made the most wonderfully realistic pumpkin guts from polymer clay! For the past six weeks I have been creating very different art than I have before. For the first time since art school, I am sitting down and making artwork that flows and is consistently pleasing, even after several days and self-Crit.
These dioramas and miniatures have been fun to make. I am enjoying each phase and at times the draw to get back into the studio and work is at the forefront on my mind. They are interesting to look at on their own, but they are abstractly personal with the details and at the very least, I will have some neat pieces to put up and enjoy gazing at. I am also continuing to make my miniature foods and other top secret projects for April 2017's Tom Bishop International show! ...any tips for organizing the booth space? How do you like to display your minis? These were so fun to make! They also helped in leading the charge in beginning my miniatures diorama dream series. I have already seen improvements in my ability to create more realistic texture. Anyone have any good tips for working with resin? So far everything is going "swimmingly" (pun intended). Minus the one time it cured instantaneously by turning nuclear HOT, making me run down and stick it in the kitchen sink 😬. Yikes! I over-mixed the resin under a white light....apparently both can cause something "science-y" to happen. Enjoy the tutorial!!! I have been experimenting with a new technique, where I mix sand with liquid clay and pigment, attempting to create a very organic texture. Breads, meats, desserts. So far, so good. This newest tutorial demonstrates this technique when making mini marshmallow and crispy rice treats (I am trying to creatively come up with a new name, other than "Rice Crispy Treats"). These dioramas are taking over my miniature world. I have EIGHT in the making. Meanwhile, I am making mini tutorials in between on different parts of the work. I've come to the conclusion that I am obsessed with these. So many fine and important details. I have TEN dioramas going at one time, I am able to continue each piece a bit at a time. Each day they transform. I am just the worst at updating my blog with constant content. I apologize. I can say though that when I do post, it will be more than worth the wait.
Since my last post, I have become 100% immersed in making miniature dioramas. I have always thought a dollhouse should have it's own dollhouse. That is where the idea began, with miniature scale in mind. The concept has been free-flow conscious thought, reflecting on dreams from my dream journal. Describing my dreams verbally is toug. To reconstruct images and symbolism, or recurrent themes is INSANE! I have been completely in the zone and am so excited about them so far. My venture into miniature koi ponds has gone off the rails. I started my tutorial by making three...now I have 13, all of which will be features in the tutorial. The best part is that while making these, I got a zillion ideas for a large pond with levels and waterfalls. I may somehow figure out how to make a little river too. Something tells me it is time to get out the paper mache. ...to be continued. I will be posting a tutorial in a few days on my mini koi ponds, but I had to pass on how amazing my first attempt was at making polymer rocks. I made the grey ones in the picture. Looks so good!!!!! I hope the rest of the project leaves me so pleased :)
I saw these mini-jars and knew immediately what I had to make. I could have easily made a singular video of each jar, but I decided to pull them all together. Selecting the perfect cookie for each lid was the best part. The Cherries Jubilee cookie paired so perfectly with the "Kitsch Pretty Pig" Cookie Jar. Tutorial now live on my YouTube channel. Heat waves and translucent clay made for a real challenge. But is was so very worth it! My salmon minis and tutorial turned out great! I am super pleased. |
